Do you remember the first time you heard a 909? The punching bass, the snappy snare, that enthralling open hi-hat that’s been the backbone of dance music for the past 30-odd years.
The Roland TR-909 was billed a huge flop upon its initial release in 1983. Despite establishing many new achievements in music technology, the 909 saw little success until bedroom producers across the world came across them, largely in pawn shops, and began using it to make the earliest versions of house, techno and hip hop music. By the early 90s, you couldn’t listen to the radio without hearing the 909. The rest is drum machine history.
Please join us decades later on September 9th(International 909 Day) for an evening of 909 appreciation, experimentation and most importantly, dancing. Everyone on the lineup has been given the opportunity to present their interpretation of 909 admiration, whether that be through song selection or creation. It will be a night to remember.
