SCALA Live @ The Wheaty – Thursday May 4th, 2023

Thu 4 May @ 7:00 pm

What better way to finish celebrating Star Wars Day (May the 4th be with you) then listening to some wonderful music from talented local songwriters in a wonderful venue.

It’s all happening again on Thursday May 4th with SCALA in conjunction with The Wheatsheaf Hotel proudly presenting the next instalment of the SCALA Live @ The Wheaty series of shows.

Doors open at 6:30pm with the music kicking off at 7:00pm with free entry for SCALA members and $10 admission for non-members.

On the bill for this event are the following…

**Michael Coghlin**

Michael wrote his first song around age 20. His most recent song? About 2 weeks ago. Describes his music as a blend of folk, rock, pop and country.

Influenced by Gordon Lightfoot, Ian Anderson (of Jethro Tull), Van Morrison, Leo Kottke, Bruce Springsteen, Vin Garbutt, his mother, his brother Shaun, life, and travelling.

He has played regularly in coffee shops, bars, hotels, restaurants and folk clubs in Adelaide, and overseas over the decades – mostly solo but with occasional forays into duets, trios, and even groups.

Writes songs that convey urgency, passion, and tenderness. A unique performer/songwriter. One of SCALA’s original members.

**Anne Toner**

Anne Toner is a singer/songwriter/pianist. A contemporary roots/folk artist who recently moved to the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia after spending 20 years in Tasmania where she became a popular artist at local festivals and Sunday afternoon music venues.

Her warm vocal tones and melodically rich, piano driven songs captivate her audience and are known to make a grown man cry. Her songs weave tales of human nature and reflect on the natural world.

In 2019 she won the Mike Silverwood Award (Folk Federation of Tasmania) for song writing with her gospel song Someday Soon

In 2018 she released her first album Spinifex.

In 2021 she recorded a solo live album “In one dream and out the other” which is available to purchase on Bandcamp.

Her third album “Now to the Sea” will be released in July.

Alongside the main artists, there will also be Sue Baker, Adrienne Lovelock and Paula Standing in the special guest spots for the evening.

Please, do yourself a favour and have a listen to these wonderful original artists in a wonderfully supporting and nurturing environment and remember…

Supporting SCALA = supporting live and local original music. See you all there ????
