
Scirocco Project- Street Music from the Kingdom of Naples

The rhythms and melodies of SCIROCCO echo from Africa to Sicily, Calabria and Campania before arriving in Spain. Known as the “Kingdom of Naples” the period between the C14th-C19th included long periods of Spanish, Moorish and Greek rule.
Director, Vincenzo Andreacchio, draws upon his Calabrian cultural heritage, research in Neapolitan music and Flamenco experience to merge and re-interpret these musical traditions. Program premieres original compositions using period instruments.
Vincenzo (SA Music Industry award winning “Aire Flamenco” and “Due Voci”) and Franco Parrella (Giri – Italian Café Lounge Songs) are joined by renowned musicians Amelia Monaghan (recorders), Shaun Doddy (percussion) and Gao Hong (guitar)to present this musical journey.
Special guest artists: Emma Horwood (harpist/singer) and Arash Mir (Persian Tar instrumentalist)
