NSW noise machine JuliaWhy? comes to Adelaide for the very first time to celebrate the release of ‘dust suspended on a sunbeam’, their new album out now through Blossom Rot Records.
On this release, JuliaWhy? has found a more expansive and mature sound, while sticking to her “heart on sleeve” anthemic 90s sonic aesthetic. Here, Julia navigates the chaos and complexity of existing in a world that’s full of power imbalance while looking to the stars and the beauty of the environment as solace for the things that can feel quite crushing and overpowering. It’s about “wanting to fight to protect that beauty and fighting to have hope in moments of hopelessness.”
JuliaWhy? will be joined by two excellent Adelaide bands on the night – surf/psych duo Witch Hunt and emo folk rock three-piece Perfect 50.
The Guardian: “For fans of the Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive. Halfway through this MBV-indebted slice of cloud-skipping shoegaze, a surprising one-liner comes out of nowhere and slaps the listener across the face.”
JuliaWhy? has toured extensively throughout Australia and Canada, playing alongside Tropical Fuck Storm, Waxahatchee, Hinds, Hatchie, Cosmic Psychos, The Lemon Twigs, Crocodylus and more.
