Featuring a talented ensemble led by Nic Jeffries, Lauren Dawes takes centre stage in “For Eva: An Eva Cassidy Story,” celebrating the iconic original songs and unforgettable covers left behind by this influential artist. Eva Marie Cassidy, an American singer and guitarist, became known for her breathtaking interpretations of jazz, blues, folk, gospel, country, and pop classics.
Born in Washington D.C. in 1963, Eva was virtually unknown outside her hometown during her lifetime. She released only two albums, one of which was the renowned *Live at Blues Alley* in 1996—the same year as her untimely death. It wasn’t until 2000 that she gained international recognition, when Terry Wogan played her haunting version of “Over the Rainbow” on BBC Radio 2. The overwhelming response led to a camcorder recording of the performance being featured on *Top of the Pops 2*, catapulting her to posthumous fame. Shortly after, her compilation album *Songbird* soared to the top of the charts.
