Celebrating Amanda Phillips’ Legacy in the Arts
Award-winning DJ Josh will be dedicating a special tribute during her renowned event, The Golden Years Legends Show, at the 2025 Adelaide Fringe Festival in honour of South Australia’s beloved arts facilitator and ambassador, Amanda Phillips. The event, to be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Gluttony Fantail, will celebrate Amanda’s remarkable contributions to the arts community, with part proceeds going towards Amanda’s GoFundMe campaign to support her ongoing medical treatment.
Amanda Phillips, recently honoured with the 2023 Ausdance SA Association Award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Arts and Education’, has been a pivotal force in South Australia’s cultural landscape for decades. As the Creative Producer of Felicity Arts and the Artistic Director of Dance Hub SA, Amanda has played a crucial role in shaping the contemporary arts scene. Her visionary work as a choreographer, educator, and arts leader has impacted countless artists and students, providing mentorship and fostering opportunities that have strengthened the dance sector in South Australia and beyond.
The tribute at The Golden Years Legends Show will not only recognise Amanda’s artistic achievements but also reflect on her unwavering dedication to the arts despite her personal health battle. Amanda has lived with de novo metastatic breast cancer since 2013, undergoing treatment every three weeks while continuing to lead projects, support colleagues, and attend events for her community. Her courage and resilience have become as legendary as her artistic contributions.
With a career spanning the UK, Europe, and Asia, Amanda’s innovative approach to integrating digital technology and transdisciplinary practices has set new benchmarks in performance art. Her work has been recognised with a Churchill Fellowship, Ruby Award for Innovation, and an Adelaide Critic’s Circle Award, solidifying her legacy as an artist who continues to inspire and push creative boundaries.
Amanda’s diagnosis has recently taken a devastating turn, with her cancer progressing beyond previous treatment’s effectiveness. While she faces this next chapter with her characteristic bravery, the financial burden of new treatments and the costs of day-to-day living during intensive therapy have become overwhelming.
DJ Josh is honoured to dedicate this special show to Amanda, saying, “Amanda has been a tireless champion for the arts in South Australia, contributing her heart and soul to the community. She’s faced more challenges than most of us can imagine, but her spirit remains unbroken. It’s time for us to rally around her, as she’s done for so many of us.”
The Golden Years Legends Show promises to be an unforgettable night of music, dance and celebration, with DJ Josh curating a soundtrack of legendary hits that span eras and genres. Attendees will not only enjoy a nostalgic musical experience but also have the opportunity to contribute to Amanda’s GoFundMe to support her treatment and ongoing care.
