Happy Station Records Present Jovonn (NYC) live at Sugar on December 6th.
Jovonn burst onto the house music scene in 1991 with his hit “Turn and Runaway” released by Warner Bros. Records, which climbed to number 10 on the Billboard chart and launched him onto the global stage.
Born and raised in Brooklyn and now living in Queens, New York, Jovonn was immersed in music from a young age. His musical journey was supported by his parents, both aspiring R&B singers, with his mother on keyboards and his father on guitar and bass. He began his career as a Hip-Hop DJ at 14, spinning at the renowned New York block parties of the ’80s and soaking up the burgeoning house music scene in iconic Brooklyn clubs like Sapphires, Club Saturn, and Club Serene. His love for house music deepened over the years, cemented by stints at legendary venues like The Loft, The Choice, Snobbusters, and Zanzibar.
While managing his label and DJing across the globe, Jovonn has continued to produce music, releasing tracks on esteemed labels such as Nu Groove/Defected, including ‘Random/Get Over It’, ‘The Blaque Katt EP’, and the recent ‘The Fun Houze EP’. His work resonates with a new generation of DJs and producers, showcasing his ability to stay relevant by blending his classic NYC house sound with contemporary influences.
Joined by Groove Merchant, No Different and Romi b2b Breaking Even, this is one you’ll regret missing.
