Matt Ward & The Rising Sons
Forging his way with a distinctive approach to Australian storytelling and captivating live band performances, Matt Ward has emerged as prominent figure in Australian country music. Continuing his steady stream of successful releases, Ward is hitting the road again in 2024 promoting his latest single ‘Come Home Safe’ and giving us a tantalising glimpse into with his forthcoming new album, ‘The Long Way Home’. With two #1 ARIA country albums under his belt – ‘If I Was In Dallas Tonight’ (2021) and ‘Heartland’ (2019) – Ward’s musical journey also reflects his rich life experiences, in particular an extensive history working in Australian landscapes with regional and remote Australian communities. Since he came onto the scene, Ward has consistently released “world class” (Rhythms Magazine) Australian songs bathed in landscapes, big skies and red desert highways that reflect the best elements of Australian storytellers such as Paul Kelly and Troy Cassar-Daley.
Harvey Russell & The Widowmakers
Sydney’s Harvey Russell is in the midst of a nation tour for the release of his second album “Pure As The Flame” (“8/10 and first class” Americana UK). A troubadour that can attract the listens of Paul Kelly and John Mellencamp, Russell effortlessly infuses traditional country with Americana music. With his brilliant band The Widowmakers, Russell’s recording and live shows demonstrate a distinct approach to country music with the ability to deliver raging honky tonk numbers akin to Dale Watson and JP Harris, to unique alternates sounding more like country grunge or a pedal steel infused Velvet Underground . A show not to be missed.
