Summer Moonlight: a programme of French music for voice and piano

Gillian Dooley (voice) and Jeffrey Kong (piano) present a programme of French romantic music by Hector Berlioz, Gabriel Fauré and Claude Debussy.
We begin with two works prompted by Paul Verlaine’s enigmatic poem Claire de Lune – one for voice and piano, and one for piano solo – followed by Berlioz’s transcendently beautiful song cycle ‘Les Nuits d’été’, a setting of poetry from Théophile Gautier’s 1838 collection ‘Le Comedie de la mort’, in its original setting for voice and piano.
